INTRODUCTION
Since inception in 1995, the Center for Ethnic Studies (CES) developed a consortium of various academic and research institutions in Bangladesh and abroad to facilitate social science research. CES further serves social scientists around the world by offering training opportunities in basic and advanced techniques of quantitative and qualitative analysis and develops a research infrastructure for an international community of scholars that facilitates sharing of experience and information in social research. The data holdings and interdisciplinary dialogue cover a broad range including; Anthropology, Criminology, Demography, Ecology and Environment, Economics, Education, Foreign Policy, Gerontology, History, Law, Public Policy and Administration, Public Health and Sociology. CES encourages social scientists in all fields to contribute to and share from CES resources and at the same time, CES invites scientists from different parts of the world to come in contact for knowledge sharing. CES’s spirit of fostering global ties has developed its parallel network of relationships with institutions in other countries.
CES is designed to be one of the leading institutions in South Asia for intensive research and training in Social Sciences. Unlike other classic institutions, CES is marked by a distinctive relationship to fieldwork and conversation between different disciplines in Social Sciences. The depth, critical focus, multidisciplinary approach and the unique tradition of CES continue to characterize postgraduate studies. The research programs undertaken by the scholars, entail rigorous training in allied fields, drawing on resources in disciplines and programs. Among the intellectual resources of the Center itself and its allied and affiliated programs, participants encompass an unparalleled opportunities for training.
